Hey all. After years of trying, finally got my ob-gyn to put in Essures (instead of getting an old-fashioned tubal) last Thursday (July 23rd). Unfortunately, it didn't go smoothly at first. I was dumb enough to only get some kind of Motrin injection, and everything hurt like hell. However, my ob-gyn allegedly got the tubes placed correctly.
I bled and expelled fluid for the rest of the day and part of the day after, but all of the bleeding seemed to have gotten over itself by Saturday morning.
Then in the middle of the night on Saturday I started getting red bleeding, like a regular period that I used to have before I went on the Pill in college (and which I am still on now). Bright red blood with some chunky bits in it. I called my obgyn's office that Sunday, got the service, and in an hour I got a call back from the lady on weekend call duty. She seemed unconcerned and said that this was within "normal" parameters.
Note that I got a LOT of fluid in me during the procedure; we went through almost 2 bags of saline.
Then I started getting some crampiness, almost like a stabbing pain. Now, I realize that this could be the instrumentation effect. I had a D&C to remove polyps last year and I bled for 3 weeks after that. Heck, I even bleed from a Pap smear. Still, given the possibilities and all of the horror stories on the Intertubes (puns intended) I'm starting to worry.
Well, this has been going on since Sunday and here it is, Friday again. I spoke to my obgyn on Wednesday and she said that we're still within normal parameters.
Bleeding went from "solid red" to "watery red" and then last night I thought I was catching a break; bleeding seemed to have stopped.
But of course I woke up this AM and...more red blood with some bits in it, and back to the cramping/pinching feeling.
I have another call in to my ob-gyn even though I'm seeing her next Thursday. HATING this. I truly hope that I'm not one of the few who can't tolerate them, but what's normal? Was thinking of trying to tough this out through my next period, which is due the week after next.
Anyone else have a similar experience?
Thanks so much!

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Fri, July 31, 2009 - 10:00 AMI don't have any experience with it, so I can't offer any advice other than staying in communication with your doctor. But I know that we here in this tribe will keep you in our thoughts, and send comforting hugs. -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Fri, July 31, 2009 - 11:55 PMOh, that has to be maddening! I'm sorry to hear about it and sorry to say I don't have your particular experience. I do understand the bleeding thing, though. i had that issue for six months before they figured out what was going on with me (fibroids).
Good luck, and please keep us up on your progress. This is a procedure that's been asked about in here before.

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Thu, August 6, 2009 - 1:43 PMThanks. Went to ob-gyn today. She did an ultrasound (which isn't really useful in this case) to make sure that nothing was catastrophically wrong. She also did a blood test for infection as I have started to have the dry heaves and nausea. X-ray tomorrow to see if the damn things are even still in; if I don't improve we may be looking at an MRI.
Meh.
Shoulda just gotten my tubes tied...fuck. -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Thu, August 6, 2009 - 5:11 PMSounds like a medical horror story in the making. We're still hoping for the best for you. And doesn't all this mean that the doctor should have had you in there sooner to find out what the story was? -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Thu, August 13, 2009 - 1:48 PMWell, had my X-rays. I have a SUPER bad period now; tons of bleeding which is only starting to let up.
X-rays are somewhat inconclusive but at least they're not in my body cavity or anything.
Ob-gyn wants to wait at least one more menstrual cycle before we think about taking them out. In the meantime feeling a teeny tad better...I may just be a bleeder/sensitive (when I had to get a diagnostic D&C I bled for over a month afterwards).
Meh.
Thank you all though for your support! Will continue to keep you posted. -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Thu, August 13, 2009 - 4:16 PMWe've been wondering. I hope that's all it is, and that your problems clear up soon, so you can just get on with enjoying sterility. It really is a wonderful thing. I've been shooting blanks for 32 years now, and it's great. I just wish it were as easy for you ladies as it is for us guys. -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Fri, August 14, 2009 - 2:10 PMWow. I hate when they ask to wait it out. Hopefully this will all clear up in a month or two and you'll be glad you went through it because NO BABIES! -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Sun, August 23, 2009 - 10:37 PMHey, Jen! How are you doing? -
-
Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Wed, August 26, 2009 - 8:58 AMStill getting some stabby pains, but stuff seems to be calming down...SLOWLY. VERY SLOWLY. I hate being an outlier. However, I am in no rush to cut and get a tubal; afraid of more healing issues from that also...so right now we're in "wait and see" mode. It's only been a few days over a month since I had it done. In the interim, at least my appetite is back... -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Wed, September 9, 2009 - 1:30 PMHey all, just checking in. STILL have persistent back pain and some stabby pain in my tubes, but I will probably be told to wait a month more or something...will keep you posted. -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Wed, September 9, 2009 - 3:18 PMGlad to hear it's getting better!
I know it's not the same thing but I had about a year of weird periods, odd pains, and a hormone roller coast after I got my tubes tied. I couldn't make it all go away but taking a woman's herbal combo of Don Quoix, Evening Primrose, and Soy Isoflavens helped with the hormones and eventually the pains lessened and my cycle evened out. "Womans' Bodies, Woman's Wisdom" is a great book for fully understanding how to take care of yourself; I consider it my owner's manual.
Good luck, good health, and congratulations on being forever child-free. -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Wed, September 9, 2009 - 3:38 PMI wonder if the same things might help with Essure? It certainly sounds like it's worth checking out. Hell, I think I'll have to look into it as well... even if I'm fixed to the point of not even having periods anymore (yay!).

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Mon, September 21, 2009 - 1:53 PMJezebel--thanks for the tips. Just spoke again to my Ob-gyn, and seeing her mentor in two weeks--this guy is like the Essure and Tubal King of NYC, so at least if G-d forbid I do need these things out it'll be the most boring thing he does all day and NOT a "learning experience."
Right now though they want me to wait out the full 3 month "scarring over" part of the Essure process, to see if the pains eventually fully let up.
Will continue to keep all posted.
I know it hasn't been that long--got the fuckers in back in the third week of July--but this feels like forever. -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 10:14 AMYou know, I can just see the informercial for this procedure. A half-hour informercial. After 5 minutes of the virtues of the procedure, how it makes you completely sterile, etc, there is the disclaimer. "Side effects may include,......" then 25 minutes of description of side effects. You have to wonder why this procedure is even available with such devastating side effects. We're all still sending you our best wishes, and we hope you find out something useful Friday. Hugs. -

Re: Has anyone else had Essure put in? I'm having some odd symptoms..
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 4:51 PMThanks all. Sorry for lack of followup. Current plan is to wait until early december for dye test, then see if I am still in pain and tubes are or are not blocked. If NOT, they come out immediatley. If they are blocked, though, we'll do a pain check then and wait and see a bit more...thanks for all of your support.
