I work at a clothing store and the last couple of weeks I've been offering discount coupons to the adult department shoppers for kids clothes. It's very interesting how many of them do not want the coupons and say something like "Nooooooo! There are no kids in my world, don't give me that coupon." It's refreshing actually.
A few times I get a young couple who says, "No.", and gets embarrassed, blushing visibly, I suppose 'cause they haven't yet discussed children between themselves. But there are really a lot of people who don't want anything to do with children, and children's clothes. At least from my perspective at the adult section of a major clothing store. How refreshing!

Tue, September 8, 2009 - 9:35 AMChristie, you'd probably get a kick out of my response, which would be to hold up my index fingers in the form of a cross and hiss at you. All in good fun, of course. I would realize that you're just doing your job, and we would get a laugh out of it. -

Re: Giving out coupons for kid's clothing
Tue, September 8, 2009 - 12:06 PMto hijack briefly....
I too work in a retail clothing store, this one really high end (we sell Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabana....you get the idea) We recently had a woman steal a shopping cart from the nearby Target store so she could push her obnoxious little brats around our store...and the little shits were jumping out of the cart and running over to the $1500 handbags to run their germy little fingers all over them. God bless my manager who told the woman her kids couldn't handle the merchandise.... -

Tue, September 8, 2009 - 2:26 PMThere are times when the customer is NOT right, and must be tossed out on their ass. I do it in my renaissance faire booth all the time. -

Re: Giving out coupons for kid's clothing
Tue, September 8, 2009 - 11:04 PMThey let the kids handle the clothes and merchandise all they want where I work. I wish I could tell them not to, because all too often the items played with or otherwise carted around until the parents make their decisions, pay and leave, are left in a less than new condition. Small kids tend to put the clothing in their mouths, and one can sometimes see the water mark afterwards, and then we have to reduce the price to be able to sell it.

Re: Giving out coupons for kid's clothing
Wed, September 9, 2009 - 3:20 PMSometimes you see people giving away or trading coupons on craigslist for anything from restaurants to discounts on merchandise.
So one might reconsider picking up the coupon and trading it for something else or giving it away for good will. -
