So, a toddler screams his head off on a plane about to embark, interferes with safety announcements, annoys the hell out of everyone, and the crew (quite rightly) asks the mother to leave the plane.
And then, the airline later apologizes to the mother:

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Sun, November 1, 2009 - 2:38 PMOh, yay. *Reward* the parent for not being able to keep her child quiet. That'll help. -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Mon, November 2, 2009 - 9:59 AM"The 38-year-old mom said she hoped to be compensated for the portable crib and diapers she had to buy for the extra night away from home."
Are you going to tell me that you can't put a 2-year-old to sleep on a regular bed with you for ONE night? And regarding the diapers, it's not like she is not going to use them anyway when she gets home...
I think it was more a marketing strategy so the woman wouldn't sue. "Here, have $300 - which are nothing - and get the hell out of my plane!" -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Mon, November 2, 2009 - 1:28 PMI bet if they had asked the other passengers to put some money in a hat to pay off the bitch and her kid, getting them off the plane, they might have come up with more than $300. -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Mon, November 2, 2009 - 3:26 PMI think I paid $10 for extra legroom on JetBlue. It was worth it. I'd pay more for a childfree flight. -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Tue, November 3, 2009 - 9:22 AMMe, too. We flew business class to the UK and back last week, and it was totally worth the extra $$ as there were no kids in the whole section. Ahhhhhhhh. -

Thu, November 5, 2009 - 7:13 AMWait a minute.....he's 2 years old and still in diapers?? -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Thu, November 5, 2009 - 11:19 AMI have no idea if that's a chronologically off, but it may not be a bad thing - you might not want a 2-year old toddling down the aisle to the porta-potty and probably making a mess in there. -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Thu, November 5, 2009 - 1:31 PMI think it's not unusual to have a two year old in diapers. I googled "two year old in diapers" and a lot of hits came up and it seems there's a lot of two year olds in diapers. I think most of them are sort of in partially-trained, but-may-backslide territory at that age.
I'm actually proud that I had to look it up, too. -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 3:29 PMMy friend's kids are freaks then, cause most of them are out of diapers by 1.5.....but it's not like I really have any clue about the potty habits of kids. * ooh ick* Sorry I mentioned it =]

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 3:53 PMHere's a good take on the episode, written by a fellow childfree traveler.
Complete article (the discussion comments at the end are fun, too).

Choice quote...
>And parents, please try to remember that those of us who complain about crappy parenting we've witnessed are probably not talking about people like you -- unless you actually are one of the ones who would completely ignore your kid throwing herself into a display case or kicking a fellow passenger's seat for two hours. If you are one of those, then yes, my fruitless womb and I are judging you. And we'll stop being annoyed that your child acts like a child just as soon as you start acting like a grown-up. -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 5:35 PMJust in case anyone's thinking of flyng JetBlue, I was mistaken about the extra legroom cost - it's $40 per person, each way. So for two people round trip, that's $160 extra! But we swore it was worth it. So just think what we'd pay for a childfree flight! $$$ !!! I hope somebody in airline marketing is scanning .....

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 10:45 AMMy lady and I were out and about last weekend, and we ran across a number of very well behaved children with their parents. And we comment on it to the parents, too. Pay attention to your kids, teach them to behave. They will have a much better life without the scorn of everyone around them everywhere they go. And, no, it isn't cruel to discipline children, just do it with love. They will respond. -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 11:00 AMI think it's cruel NOT to. To grown up with no boundaries and with the expectation that the whole world should think you a prince/ess, only to have that concept dashed by reality seems much worse than risking "harm to their self-esteem", or whatever today's reasoning is, imo. -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Tue, November 10, 2009 - 2:14 PMThat's why so many adults are pieces of crap these days, in my opinion. They grew up in control of their parents from infancy. All they had to do was scream, or throw a tantrum, and they got what they wanted. I see it every day. Then they grow up, at least from a physical point of view, and go out into the world, and it doesn't work any more. Very frustrating, I imagine. -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Tue, November 10, 2009 - 9:41 PMI think this article, from all places, the liberal socialists in England, says a lot about the things we've been talking about. I think liberal views have gone so far off the deep end that people have had enough, and the pendulum may start to swing the other way. But the bad effects of bad child rearing will be with us for a long time to come.

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Mon, November 23, 2009 - 11:07 AMSorry for the late reply, but I couln't agree with you more Lester. I work with a young kid who is a spoiled POS and total attention whore. Management is just too busy to do anything about him.
He's also one of those little geniuses who claims that his ADD is a) an excuse for anything and therefore b) makes him unfireable. I hope one day I get to see him proven wrong on that. -

Re: Child screaming on airline, and of course, it's the airline's fault
Mon, November 23, 2009 - 10:47 PMI've been in a position to be able to fire, but had nothing to do with hiring. The company would send people out to the jobsite that supposedly could do the job, and if I couldn't work with them, I would have to refuse to allow them back on the job. That happens a couple of times, and the company quits sending them out to projects. If a person didn't have all the skills necessary to operate the equipment he or she was supposed to operate, I could work with that. I can teach somebody the skills. But if they don't think they need to learn, or do a good job for me, they have a shitty attitude, I want them off the job. -
